Hi, I’m Jose Carmona.
Jose Carmona is an artist born and raised in the Inwood neighborhood of NYC. His work blends magical realism, surrealism, and ancestral spirituality, using augmented reality (AR) to uncover unseen narratives beneath the material world. By merging physical and digital elements, José invites viewers to experience the esoteric dimensions of his art, where each piece reveals a spiritual story beyond what meets the eye.
Jose earned a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design. His extensive background in digital media, illustration, and graphic design has evolved into a focus on immersive and interactive art, incorporating AR elements. He is also a member of Art Pawn, a New York City artist collective dedicated to experimental art forms.
Jose’s work has been exhibited at notable locations such as Culture Lab LIC, and the Fashion Institute of Technology. He has also participated as a character actor in the famed Art in Odd Places festival, known for presenting visual and performance art in unexpected public spaces. Jose’s work continues to explore the intersection of technology, spirituality, and storytelling, transforming the way audiences engage with art. Through AR and mixed media, Jose creates portals into deeper, hidden narratives that connect the past and the present.
